Selenthia Butler
Homeless Advocate
Selethia Butler joined Area in Need Missionary House Inc. as our homeless advisor in 2019. We met Ms. Butler at the economy hotel where we provide services to our clients. As a single parent and grandmother, she had been living in this hotel for over two years, facing numerous challenges while seeking employment and alternative housing.
Despite her difficulties, Ms. Butler remains strong, confident, and intelligent. Her firsthand experience of hotel life provides invaluable insight for our program, helping us stay relevant to our clients’ needs. She advises us on:
- Street outreach programs
- Supportive services
- Motel/hotel voucher programs
- Additional services our clients might require
In March 2020, Ms. Butler’s situation improved significantly. She moved into a new apartment, secured employment, and now volunteers with Area in Need Missionary House Inc. Her success story exemplifies why we are committed to supporting our clients and helping them achieve stability and independence.
